Is Sushi Mitani NYC $2,500?

A little birdie tells me the price for Sushi Mitani NYC will be $2,500 – per person.

The honten in Tokyo is run by the legendary Yasuhiko Mitani, and is notorious for three things:

Excellent sushi (duh), nearly impossible reservations, and their alcohol pairings.

The forthcoming New York outpost, which will be in or around – sorry for the triggering language, lawyers – the Lotte Palace NYC. If you’re unfamiliar, the Lotte Palace delivers luxury ethos with a cruise ship attitude. The lobby is straight from level 4 of the Oasis Of The Seas. If you yearn for the days of tour groups milling around aimlessly waiting for Sharon from Biloxi to retrieve the camera from her room, the Lotte Palace is for you.

I’M HEARING TWO THINGS ABOUT MITANI

August soft open, and sushi with pairings will be $2,500. Per person.

Even if that price incliudes grautity and taxes, that would make it arguably the most expensive restraurant in the country. If you don’t drink, you may be shit out of luck, but who really knows. Mitani hasn’t commented on any of this stuff, despite me reaching out to their architect (don’t ask why, not all pulitzer eligible bloggers are created equally).

It’s also unclear how Masa will respond. Long the most expensive sushiya in the country, it’s fair to wonder if they’ll raise their price to $2,501.
