Tsubugai

螺貝 | Whelk
Type: Other
Season: Spring to summer.

Not to be confused with Sazae (Turbinate Shell), Tsubugai is a decently crunchy, pain-in-the-ass to extract delicacy, often served at the beginning of the meal as a type of otsumami (think a small appetizer).
