Mekajiki

眼梶木 | Swordfish
Type: Shiromi
Season: Summer

Mekajiki (swordfish) is a summer neta that you won’t see very often at sushiya. Turns out it’s both harder to catch and packs a stronger flavour that some customers find unpalatable. Not me. It’s often confused for _makajiki_ (marlin), though the colour – _mekajiki_ is lighter – is usually a giveaway.
